Lyme Regis Development Trust has just received a grant for £7,050 from section 106 funding, allowing it to press ahead with the creation of an exciting new amenity for the community. The Men’s Shed concept originated in Australia and is now spreading throughout the UK. It’s a simple idea – equip a shed with state-of-the-art carpentry tools and allow men (and women!) of a certain age loose. It may be a simple idea but pays dividends on several levels, providing a social hub and sense of community for older men and women, while providing a valuable resource for the town.

Here’s one of the dinosaurs made during a recent activity at The Hub for Fossil Festival, but have you ever held an actual fossil or mineral? How did you know it was a fossil? What is a fossil? Do you know why minerals are important and that we can even search for them in space!
At the Natural History Museum in London, we ask questions about specimens like fossils and minerals every single day. The Museum has millions of objects, which include everything from fossils to butterflies to meteorites and minerals. We are bringing some exciting things to The Hub in Lyme Regis as part of the great Fossil Festival. Drop in to our hands-on activities lead by Museum scientists where you can explore fossils and other amazing treasures from our famous collections. Learn to use questions and other scientific ideas to examine specimens to learn more about the natural world and be like a Museum Scientist for yourself. Fantastic, informative, fun and free!
At The Hub we are looking for volunteers to paint our cafe space for the launch of our community cafe in May. The dates we would like to paint on are the 13th and 14th of May, 10am-3pm. You will be provided with a delicious lunch and refreshments whilst part of the team, come for 1 day or 2. The paint has been donated by B and Q in Chard and Terry O’Grady, we just need you!
