German students

A group of 26 students from Germany stayed for a week long residential at The Hub.  As part of an English language trip, the students, all aged 14, visited major attractions in London, including the Globe Theatre, British Museum and Tower of London, before travelling by train to Lyme Regis.

During their stay, the school party took part in a fossil-hunting trip along the Jurassic Coast and a milling demonstration at the Town Mill.

They also visited Charmouth, enjoyed the riverside walk between Lyme and Uplyme and attended an Arabian Nights-theme storytelling evening, held at the Masonic Hall in aid of Uplyme Community Sponsorship Scheme, which is hoping to resettle a Syrian refugee family in the local area.

Teachers said their visit to Lyme Regis was made possible thanks to affordable accommodation facilities at The Hub in Church Street, where they camped in the main hall and made use of the kitchen facilities downstairs.

The Hub was also able to continue its weekly programme of community events during the students’ stay, including youth club nights, classes and activities hosted by local organisations, including musical charity B Sharp, which some of the visiting students enjoyed joining in with.

The visiting party said they received a warm welcome in Lyme Regis and the trip gave them plenty of opportunities to practise their language skills.

They are now hoping to make it an annual event.

Book a stay at The Hub for your group and enjoy being in the town centre, right next to the sea.

MWlogo_green-01The Hub, as part of Lyme Regis Development Trust, are very pleased to have received a donation of £313 from the Mountain Warehouse, Lyme Regis store. The Charity Bag Campaign, run by the UK’s outdoor retailer, launched on 3rd July 2018 and allowed stores in the UK and Republic of Ireland to fundraise for their chosen local charity through the selling of canvas tote bags in-store. 100% of the proceeds from each £1.99 bag sold throughout the past year have been donated to the Lyme Regis Development Trust.
This money will be used for The Hub to facilitate and organise activities for young people.

yogaOn Sunday 13th October Shivapriya will be offerring a yoga workshop at The Hub at 6pm, focusing on wellbeing and self-help for back and joint pain. She will go through some easy but deep postures that you can use in your home practice.  After yoga at 8pm join Shivapriya for mantras and kirtan. A kirtan, sometimes referred to as sankirtana (literally, “collective performance”), is a call-and-response chanting or musical conversation, a genre of religious performance arts that developed during India’s bhakti devotional traditions. This will be a truly relaxing and calming therapy.  You can do both classes back to back.  For more information and tickets please go to

The Uplyme Community Sponsorship (UCS) scheme was charity discoset up last year and already has a supporter’s group of over 50 volunteers. Its aim is to resettle a refugee family from Syria under the Home Office Resettlement programme in the Lyme Regis-Uplyme area. So far, about half the minimum amount required to start the process has been raised through a series of fundraising events and the Charity Disco on Saturday 28th September at The Hub is another! We hope you will come along and support us.

Beach school drums outside the hubThe Holiday Activity Programme at The Hub was fantastic!  Twenty six primary school children thoroughly enjoyed a range of football, arts and crafts, cookery, music and Beach School for a whole week of fun, learning and making new friends.  Parents have given us some great feedback and the young people have asked for the day’s to be a bit longer and have made some suggestions for things to do next time, such has use our skate ramps and organise some dance, make an animation and even have a movie afternoon.

The Hub, as part of the Lyme Regis Development Trust, is already planning the next holiday programme and applying for funding so that our pilot project can become a regular event for our local community.   We would still aim to offer a varied programme led by professional session leaders and will work in partnership with other local organisations such as Lyme Regis Youth Football and B Sharp.

If you would like to receive news and booking dates for our future Holiday Activity Programme please email or telephone 01297 444266.
