Hub Alexandra HotelTHE Hub youth club in Lyme Regis is delighted that the Alexandra Hotel & Restaurant will be sponsoring the facility on a monthly basis during 2019.

Speaking on The Hub, Kathryn Haskins, director of the award-winning hotel in Pound Street, said: “It’s such a wonderful organisation and the space they provide for young people in the town is of such great importance.

“We hope to help not only financially, but also by facilitating those interested in working in the hospitality industry by offering training and opportunities.

“The hospitality industry has such huge scope for travel and amazing opportunities for young people we are thrilled to work with youth club and those that may be interested in this industry.”

Diane Earle, manager of The Hub, added: “Having monthly financial support from The Alexandra Hotel & Restaurant for work at The Hub youth club is key to keeping the sessions open and staffed by our professional youth workers and is very much appreciated.”

Trustees of Lyme Regis Development Trust, which runs The Hub, and staff from The Alexandra Hotel recently celebrated their new partnership at the trust’s Christmas lunch for supporters in the run up to the festive season.

LYME Regis Development Trust (LRDT) has received £24,500 to make The Hub fully accessible for wheelchair users. The Trust received the grant from the Coastal Revival Fund, introduced in 2015-16 to help coastal areas to bring at risk heritage and community assets back into economic use.  The grant will allow for the main entrance to The Hub, managed by LRDT, to be made fully accessible for wheelchair and mobility users.  LRDT chief executive Terri Tipping commented: “We are privileged to have been successful with this bid. This will enhance the accessibility to The Hub which will not only be of benefit to our customers, but also to our groups who use the building.  “Over the last 36 months, helped by the previous Coastal Revival Fund grants, LRDT has invested heavily in The Hub to improve facilities and help with its long term sustainability.  Conscious of the difficult physical situation as a result of its original design, this proposed project will transform the ease of access to our ground floor cafe, toilets and accessible shower room. The integral lift then provides easy access to the upper floor where users can enjoy the sports hall.”

“We are planning to start the works early 2019.”

Volunteering at Youth Club

Volunteering at Youth Club

The Hub Youth Club is very pleased to welcome Lydia Glover as a volunteer at its Wednesday and Friday sessions of Youth Club. Lydia is a second year student at The University Centre Somerset based in Taunton.  She is studying Health and Social Care with the intentions of becoming a Primary School Teacher and throughout this current year she is studying her second year of her degree as well as a diploma in children’s residential care.  Lydia was advised to go on placement whilst completing her diploma and she chose The Hub Youth Club for her organisation as it would give her another stepping stone onto my teaching career goal.

Lydia said “I’m really happy that I can do my placement at The Hub. I have been going to the Youth Club as a volunteer for a few weeks and I really enjoy seeing the children and young adults use the centre as a place to relax and enjoy activities that would be difficult to do at home. I find talking to the children very easy and they have made me feel very welcome, I honestly believe these children and young adults are an asset to our community”.

The Hub Youth Club is open for all young people on Wednesday at 6.30 for age 8-14 years and at 7pm on Fridays for Senior Youth Cub.

After school on Fridays

After school on Fridays

Georgina, the Principal of Helen O’Grady Drama, holds after school drama classes at The Hub on Fridays.  She says that “nothing is more rewarding than to have a child start my classes as a very shy person who has little confidence, and even after one term, is able to speak more confidently and feel a sense of achievement”.  The Hub is a brilliant venue with lots of space for young people to express themselves.  Book a free trial session with Georgina by going to or phone 01308423591.
